DOTHAN:    7:04 PM    A Dothan Fire engine called in a working structure fire 3400 block of Reeves Street. This is across from Jack's Restaurant.

This is a rescue. The house is occupied and fireman are in rescue mode.

This is a working fire and multiple fire units, ambulances and law enforcement are on scene and rolling.

UPDATED @ 8:35 PM

Dothan Fire Engine 9 ( Technology Drive ) had gone to Jack's Hamburgers on Reeves Street at Dothan High School to get food to go for supper.

A off duty Headland Policewoman was southbound from Headland towards Dothan, on her personal vehicle, and saw the smoke. As she pulled her phone to dial 911 she spotted the Dothan Fire Engine. At the same time they spotted the house on fire. Because of the lighting situation sitting in Jack's parking lot it was difficult to see.

Dothan Fire Engine 9 called the fire in and was attempting to get across the four lane to the residence. The residence faces Reeves Street and is the first house on the right past the Liberty Station which is at Roney Road and Reeves Street.

When Dothan Engine 9 notified via radio the fire, they announced a single story residential structure, a working fire and a vehicle in the driveway. Seconds later the fireman announced this is a "rescue mode" as someone was in the structure.

Multiple fire engines rolled, on duty and off duty fireman, Kinsey Police Sgt. Jim Mock, multiple law enforcement officers and multiple ambulances.

Dothan Fireman entered the residence attempting to locate the victim(s). The fireman had to exit because inside the fire was to intense.

A male victim was located quickly and he was covered in smoke. He was able to direct the fireman to the area where the female was located. Dothan Fireman were able to break into the side of the house where the female victim was reported to be and located her.

The male was quickly transported to Southeast Health by Pilcher Ambulance followed quickly by the female on another ambulance to Southeast Health. Both are reported in critical condition.

The fire scene was under the command of Captain Jack Woods. He might be a Battalion Chief now but Woods did a great job of commanding the the scene.

Dothan Utilities responded to the scene.

The off duty Headland Police woman, on her personal vehicle with her family, returned to Jack's Restaurant and got Dothan Fire Engine 9 food and delivered to them on the fire scene when the fire was under control.

All three Deputy Fire Chief's were on the scene. Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams responded to the hospital to minister to and check on the fire victims.

Dothan Fire Prevention Deputy David Hasty is in charge of the fire investigation.

Dothan Fire was taxed. At one time only one fire truck was available for calls. Between the fire, a critical injury wreck, and medical calls all fire units but one were on calls. Captain Jack Woods ( of Chief Woods ) was getting fire engines released and back in service and available for calls as soon as possible to have units available to serve the residents.

In situations like tonight, off duty fireman are being called to respond and prepare reserve fire engines and volunteer fire departments from across the county are on stand by to assist. So everything is covered but it takes intense Emergency Management of the resources.

Also hats off to the Dothan 911 dispatchers. Calls were everywhere and things popping everywhere. These ladies and men in the 911 Center which are never seen did a fantastic job in the management of everything going on. And there was a lot.
