DOTHAN: Dothan Fire and Dothan Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash at Denton and Westgate. According to witness on scene the accident occurred when an F-150  and Sheriff Deputy Patrol Tahoe had a T-bone accident. The sheriff vehicle causing it to flip over. One person, the Deputy,  was transported by ambulance to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Initial reports are the Sheriff Deputies SUV rolled three times. Also initial reports were person entrapped and vehicle on fire. That call resulted in a major Fire and Law Enforcement response. Dothan Fire, Dothan Police, Houston County Sheriff Deputies and ALEA - Troopers along with EMS.

When Dothan Fire arrived on the scene they reported there was no entrapment and no vehicle fire.

The Houston County Sheriff Deputy had his K-9 Bloodhound with him. The K-9 did not receive any injuries. A retired Alabama Corrections Officer who handled K-9's during his tenure and worked with Houston County Sheriff Department after retirement from Department of Corrections was on the scene and helped care for the deputy and the K-9.

Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza, Sheriff Chief Deputy Jeff Carlisle, Major Bill Rafferty and Captain James Ivey were all on the scene.

Houston County Commissioner Doug Sinquefield went to the emergency room to check on the Deputy. Commissioner Sinquefield always goes and checks on officers, correctional officers or any county employee injured as soon as he is notified of the injury.

The area where the crash occurred is closed until it can be cleaned up. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Dothan Police.

TREY GLASS made a FACEBOOK comment the article was misleading. Seems the article read DOTHAN Fire Department “transported” the Deputy.

TREY GLASS, who once was an employee of PILCHER’S AMBULANCE is absolutely correct that Dothan Fire Department does not transport patients. The Dothan Fire Department responds to every medical emergency in the City Limits Of Dothan. Pilcher Ambulance responds also.

In years past DOTHAN Fire did ride into the hospital on every patient transported in the City Limits Of Dothan. That practice has since stopped. Dothan Fire only rides in on serious patients.

Ozark Fire Department owns the ambulance service in Ozark. Perhaps Dothan Fire should pursue the same.

Thanks to Trey Glass for pointing that out and getting it corrected.
