HOUSTON COUNTY: Around 6:50 PM Houston County dispatched a possible vehicle in the water at the Gordon Boat Landing.  Reports are a vehicle was in the water and the driver took off on foot and got into another vehicle and fled the area.

Gordon Fire, Lucy Fire, Ashford Rescue and Houston County Sheriff Deputies are all on the scene attempting to locate the vehicle.  So far no vehicle has been located.

Houston county Rescue Dive Team and Georgia DNR are on the river still attempting to locate the vehicle.

Multiple agencies are on the scene of Gordon Boat Landing and have been searching for the vehicle reported under water. Underwater divers have confirmed it is a vehicle which is identified as a KIA Soul. The divers have confirmed no one is inside the vehicle.

A wrecker has been dispatched to attempt to pull the vehicle from the water.

Some units on the scene: Gordon Police Chief Jim Mock, Columbia Police, Houston County Sheriff Department, Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah, Early County Sheriff Department, Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Early County Emergency Management, Gordon Fire, Ashford Rescue, Columbia Rescue.

Houston County Rescue Unit, a search and rescue unit, were on the scene. The Houston County Rescue divers are the ones who went into the water and checked the vehicle.

Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza was personally on the scene. Also Houston County Sheriff Criminal Investigation Lieutenant Anthony Hatcher, Houston County Sheriff Criminal Investigator Berry and Houston County Patrol Shift Sergeant Adam Zey.

Also on the scene Blakely Fire Department.

The wrecker, Knight's Wrecker, has two units on the scene. The Houston County Rescue Unit divers are working with the wrecker in hooking the cables to the submerged vehicle in order to pull from the water.

The investigation into why the vehicle is submerged in the water continues by skilled law enforcement investigators.

OF SPECIAL NOTE  

The "always on call" Houston County D-3 Commissioner/Houston County Sheriff Sergeant who claims always on call so he can drive the Houston County Sheriff vehicle as a Houston County Commissioner yet draw the $ 250.00 per month from the county to furnish his own vehicle, for some reason you never see him on a scene. So much for transparency and accountability...

BUT... Herring's boss with the Sheriff Department was on the scene ... Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza.

BUT... Herring thinks he as a Sergeant is the boss over the Lieutenant since Herring is a County Commissioner but the Lieutenant over the division Herring is assigned, Lt. Anthony Hatcher was on the scene. Looked and never found Herring !!!

2) Beginning on June 1, 2007, the district commissioners in Houston County shall each receive a monthly expense allowance in the amount of two hundred fifty dollars ($250) per month in lieu of mileage reimbursement for performing duties within Houston County.
