HOUSTON COUNTY: Ashford Fire, Ashford Rescue and Ashford Police responded to a report of a farming accident on Bruner Pond Road. Ashford Rescue requested Survival Flight to respond due to possible long extrication.


Ashford Fire also requested Dothan Fire Heavy Rescue 4 for help with the extrication. Dothan Heavy Rescue 4 and Battalion Chief are rolling to the incident location.


Reports from the scene are advising the elderly male is in trapped in in a piece of farming equipment.


Rickey is rolling to the scene along with Lucy and Pansey Fire units.

Chief Posey advised Survival Flight was on the ground and treating the patient. Emergency crews are working to get the man free from the equipment.

Dothan Fire Battalion Chief has arrived on the scene and is helping to free the victim.

Chief Posey has advised extrication complete and the paramedics now have the patient.

The initial call dispatched by Houston County 911 was to Ashford Rescue and initially was a medical call. The call was changed shortly after dispatched to a person trapped.


Ashford EMS Tommy Watson questioned Houston County 911 on the trapped attempting to understand exactly what the call was. Houston County 911 was having problems obtaining the exact information to give to Ashford EMS.


Watson requested Ashford Fire be dispatched due to the possible entrapment. As the call progressed it was reported the patient was trapped by a farming instrument which was a King Kutter box blade with a rotary cutter inside.


The patients family was related to the Lucy Fire Chief who was notified and as he received information he updated as he responded.


When Ashford Fire Chief Jimmy Posey arrived on the scene and he determined this was extremely serious and was going to be a prolonged extrication Chief Posey called for additional resources. Chief Posey requested Knight's Wrecker to respond ASAP, launch Survival Flight, respond Dothan Fire Engine 4 Heavy Rescue.


Ashford EMS arrived and checked the patient. As the extrication was on going Ashford EMS Jarrod Whitten relayed data to the medical control at Southeast Health.


All worked in a unified command for the extrication under Ashford Fire Chief Jimmy Posey. Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah responded and Houston County Volunteer Fire Chief Vice President Jason Reneau responded. Houston County Commissioner D-2 Doug Sinquefield responded. There were no less then 30 volunteers who left the football game and responded to help the person in need.


A Houston County Sheriff Deputy established a landing zone for Survival Flight. Another Houston County Sheriff Deputy held the IV fluid bags in the air.


Knight's Wrecker lifted the blade off the rotor once the emergency volunteers took it apart.


After a unified work group was able to free the patient, who received critical injuries to the leg, Ashford EMS and Survival Flight along with Dothan Fire treated the patient pre-flight preparing the patient for flight.


The patient was transported to Southeast Health by Survival Flight.


Ashford Fire Chief Jimmy Posey and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah assembled the more than 30 volunteer emergency responders for a debriefing after the patient was flown out. The incident was discussed and each person was thanked for their willingness and dedication to saving life tonight. Also Knight's Wrecker was thanked for their rapid response and assistance.


After the debrief, Houston County Commissioner Doug Sinquefield led the more than 30 dedicated emergency volunteer responders in a prayer for the injured, giving thanks and honor for the guidance from the Holy Spirit in a successful extrication, and thanks for each person who responded giving of their time to save lives.


And each person said, AMEN!
