WASHINGTON COUNTY: TRAFFIC STOP ENDS IN DRUG ARREST

WASHINGTON COUNTY, FL; AUGUST 21, 2019) – A traffic stop at the intersection of Main Street and Jackson Avenue in Chipley has resulted in felony drug charges for a Chipley man.
A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a tan SUV around 6:20 p.m. on August 12th. The driver, 26-year-old Devin Hawkins, was not wearing a seatbelt.
During the stop, the deputy noticed a bag containing a leafy substance on the dash of the vehicle. When questioned, Hawkins removed the bag stating it was tobacco then abruptly grabbed a mirror from between the center console and passenger seat which appeared to have a white substance on it.
Further investigation led deputies to search the vehicle, at which time methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and a metal pipe were located.
Hawkins was taken into custody and transported to the Washington County Jail where he was booked on the charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
