Dothan - At 7:50pm Dothan Communications dispatched Dothan Fire to a structure fire at 108 Tree Crest Dr. Reports given to responding units that there is smoke visible from roof, the side and back of house relayed by caller on 911. Also, there are cars in driveway and unknown if occupied. Engine 4 arrived on scene to find two story residential structure with light smoke visible from roof. Engine 4 crew pulled a handline to make an interior offensive attack. Engine 5 caught the hydrant at the residence next door and connected it to Engine 4. Captain Thomas Brown was the Safety Officer for this incident and advised there was smoke coming from the eves of the house. Battalion Chief Kevin Knight was in command of the incident and advised this is a working fire. Engine 4 was assigned as the interior fire attack crew. Initial the fire attack crew was unable to locate any active fire in the living space of the house. Captain Brown advised the interior crew that the fire was going to be in the attic space over the kitchen. Engine 4, fire attack, was then able to pull down parts of the ceiling in the kitchen and "knock down" the fire in the overhead. Truck 1 completed a primary search of the inside of the residence and advised command that it was "All Clear" meaning no residence were inside the house. All of this was completed within 10 min of arriving on scene. At 8:10pm Engine 4, Fire Attack, crew advised that they had an "Under Control" and what appeared to be the stove was left on causing the fire and eventually venting to the attic. Dothan Utilities were contacted to come secure the power to the residence until a certified electrician can confirm there was no additional power issues. The residence was ventilated with an battery operated positive pressure fan to remove the smoke and not add additional carbon monoxide by a gas powered fan into the residence. This speeds up the process of clearing the air inside the structure to make it breathable again. Engine 1 replaced Engine 4 as fire attack crew to allow Engine 4 to swap their air bottles. Engine1 completed salvage and overhaul of the kitchen area and insured there was no other hot spots. Red cross was contacted to assist the residence. There were no injuries reported.
