BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - UAB Hospital is putting some patients in hotels near the hospital to preserve bed space, according to the hospital’s CEO.
It’s a way to make sure low-risk patients are closer to care. This is not a substitute hospital setting, it’s one way they’re working to keep space available inside the hospital.
According to the hospital’s CEO the hotels in use, are near the hospital, allowing patients quick access to medical services should the need arise.
It also saves the hospital a recovery room bed space, many of which have been transitioned due to the pandemic,
A spokesperson for UAB tells me that typically, a patient stays in a nearby hotel for just one night, and goes home the next day.
