Wreck On Highway 231 South - Car Totaled - People From Texas - No Rentals Cars Open

HOUSTON COUNTY:    7:18 PM    Houston County Sheriff 911 Center dispatched a motor vehicle accident with injuries, Highway 231 South at Smithville Road.

Smithville Road intersects Highway 231 South just below Dothan Livestock and Auction Company.

A two vehicle accident with injuries reported to 911. Dispatched to the scene, Hodgesville Volunteer Fire Department. Cottonwood EMS, Rehobeth EMS, Houston County Sheriff Deputies and ALEA - Troopers.

To decide jurisdiction of the call(s), there has to be dividing lines. About 2 feet east of the pavement on Highway 231 begins Cottonwood EMS jurisdiction. Two miles west of the pavement begins Rehobeth EMS juridiction.

When the 911 dispatcher enters the call, if it is entered " Smithville Road and Highway 231 South" then the EMS of jurisdiction displayed by the 911 Computer maintained by the 911 Director Pam Lowe is Cottonwood EMS.

When the 911 dispatcher enters the call, if it is entered " Highway 231 South and Smithville Road" then the EMS of jurisdiction displayed by the 911 Computer maintained by 911 Director Pam Lowe is Rehobeth EMS.

Tonight Cottonwood EMS was primary EMS dispatched. The Captain of Cottonwood EMS, Matt Boster, mutual aid requested Rehobeth EMS to also respond.

On the arrival of the emergency units the persons involved were not seriously injured. No person was transported by medical unit to a hospital.

ALEA - Troopers are in charge of the investigation.

The travelers had Arkansas and Texas license plates. The Texas license plate was traveling with another small car. They had two passengers and luggage. The car totaled had three people and luggage.

While I had a 20 minute appointment I had to make I offered to return and transport some of them to Panama City, Florida, their destination. They were attempting to pack all five people and luggage in the compact vehicle and travel onto Panama City Beach Florida.

You see, Dothan Alabama wanted the "mega city" designation. Attempt to get a rental vehicle at 8 PM on a Friday night in Dothan, Alabama. Obtaining a space rocket is easier.

But these guests passing through the City of Dothan and Houston County, guest travelers, who knew no one at all anywhere near Dothan were forced to all pack in this compact, with some sitting in others laps, to make the final 90 plus mile trip to Panama City Beach Florida.

I did offer, and I have carried people, to points of their destination when they were faced in the same set of circumstances. So has Madrid Baptist Church, Mt. Enon Baptist Church, Dothan Fire Training Building, Toyota of Dothan - Courtney Woodham. Years past we have been able to get Memphis Baptist Church and Ridgecrest Baptist Church when church buses broke down or had a accident.

RSN has posted articles about their is an ongoing need for churches or other missions who have the smaller buses or passenger vans to fill this void and show that we in Dothan and Houston County are special and take care of our people and guests passing through our community and struck with a sudden drastic event as your vehicle totaled and no rental places open.

Two businessman were willing to help. They had no buses but were willing to help.

And I ride by churches daily with vans and the smaller buses parked under the shed(s) not being used, or missions with number(s) of buses parked not being used. Some could offer to have someone on call that emergency centers could call and fill this need and show we are a Christian Community with love for others in need.

RSN has attempted several times to get a group with vans or small buses to fill this need. As someone who has responded to many accidents where travelers vehicles were totaled and no rental cars available, RSN realizes there is a need. And RSN considers it a "Christian Ministry" to demonstrate the Love of Christ. But RSN has failed, even with asking directly to some who their buses just sit there.

So if anyone is ever interested, I am passing that torch to Wiregrass 211. Call them, make yourself available. 

I'm just being for real ... as to you ride by churches in Houston County, look at their vans and small buses. If they all grouped together and set a call schedule, what, they might be on call two weeks a year. And I am sure with all of the tried people who do love to serve, it would not be difficult.

TO THOSE AFFECTED IN DOTHAN-HOUSTON COUNTY ... it is not my job but I apologize for our community public servants elected and those shepards who are in charge of leading the sheep for ignoring a ministry opportunity.

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?
