DOTHAN - WIREGRASS - HOUSTON COUNTY:    The children and school buses are on the roadways today as school begins all across the area.

I have had to help Emily this morning by getting Brantley to the road for the school bus at 6:15 AM for she has to get Tate to daycare and work early. So use caution as children are crossing to enter - this afternoon exit the school ,bus.

Watch out for young people who are driving to school. Take your time and pay attention.

WHEN TO STOP FOR SCHOOL BUSES

All two lane roadways, you MUST STOP when the driver opens to STOP sign. Watch that sign and stop. Children - look both ways and make sure you know traffic has stopped before crossing the roadway to the school bus.

FOUR LANE ROADS - for example, North Oates/Montgomery Highway from Reeves Street to Cherokee Avenue intersection. This is a four lane but not a divided highway. You MUST STOP for school bus.

For example - Montgomery Highway from Cherokee Avenue intersection, north. There is a grass median,you are not required to STOP for school bus going the opposite direction. Because this is a divided highway with the grass median.

For example - East Main Street outside Ross Clark Circle. There is a concrete median between east and west lane. School bus in the opposite lane of traffic, you are not required to stop. 

These examples are only if school bus is traveling the opposite direction on a four lane road. But if the school bus is traveling the same direction you are traveling, you must stop regardless if you are behind the bus, no matter if the four lane is divided or not.

Cameras are onthe school bus which will capture those not stopping for the school bus. The citation is $ 300.00. The pictures clearly identify the vehicle not stopping with license plates. They are very clear.
