HOUSTON COUNTY: 01:48 AM. 911 dispatched Rehobeth EMS, Southern Junction Volunteer Fire, Houston County Sheriff Department, and ALEA Trooper Spencer ADKINSON to a motor vehicle accident with injuries.
The accident was located at 5249 S. State Highway 109 which is at McCallister Road intersection.
A person on a red pickup truck ran into a trailer at the Sports Bar across the road from Clark’s Grocery. Reports are the bar had been closed about 2 hours prior to the accident.
The driver of the vehicle was still in the vehicle when emergency units arrived. The driver appeared under the influence of alcohol.
Houston County Sheriff Deputies arrested the driver and he was transported by deputies and not ambulance, to the Houston County Jail and not the hospital.
ALEA Trooper Spencer ADKINSON was woke up and responded and investigated the accident.
The volunteers of fire and EMS, at 01:48 AM until about 3 AM woke up an donated their time, gas and energy to serve their community while the Houston County Commission, D1 Curtis Harvey, D2 Tracy Adams, Chairman Brandon Shoupe, D3 Rickey Herring, D4 James Ivey and County Administrator Peter Covert gave themselves over a 7% pay raise but cut the funding to EMS by $ 5,000.00 per year per EMS.
Not a single commissioner woke up from their sleep to respond and assist while they enjoy their raise. The volunteers give of their time, energies and money, go home, shower, grab an hour of sleep and then get up and go work a real job all day.
But the Houston County Commission gave the City of Dothan $ 1 MILLION DOLLARS for green space in downtown Dothan. Not found the green space yet!
