DOTHAN: This morning a family of six was passing through Dothan on the way to Disney for a vacation.

As the family of six traveled south on Highway 231 ( South Oates ) at 5:20 AM they were met with a vehicle traveling the wrong direction. The vehicles crashed at no fault of the family of six.

When Tommy Ferguson of Ferguson Wrecker saw me he called and asked if I could carry the family of six. I said yes but my back seat was full that I would have to shift around. Tommy said if I could carry three he could handle three in the wrecker.

Dothan Fire Battalion Chief Groomes and Dothan Engine 4 ( Southside ) Captain Tommy Starling made arrangements for the new Dothan Fire Training van. Chief Groomes carried Firefighter Tyler to get the van and bring to the scene. The family along with Dothan Fire Department emptied the families totaled van and loaded into the new Training Van.

Having the number of Enterprise Rent-A-Car K.O. O’Neal I called and woke up K.O. Somewhere around 10 AM of 11 AM a flight was coming into Dothan Airport. The car rental places should open. Having the number to Courtney Woodham of Toyota of Dothan I called Courtney and no vehicles were available.

Then called Dothan Airport Police if the terminal was available for this family to go into, and it was. Captain Starling, which ended his 24 hour shift at 7 AM said he could get his Church van and carry the family to Panama City if need to for a rental vehicle if unable to locate in Dothan.

Dothan Fireman Tyler took the family to the airport.

Tommy Ferguson, on the accident scene, said he had a cabin the family could stay in if needed until all things worked out.

In a few minutes Courtney Woodham of Toyota of Dothan called and had figured something out. I conference called with Captain Tommy Starling. It seems that no vehicles were available at the Airport. Captain Starling had called K.O. O'Neal and he had looked yesterday for a vehicle even in Panama City and was unable to locate a vehicle. In the call with Courtney Woodham and Captain Starling they coordinated meeting at Toyota of Dothan to get the vehicle.

As I came home happened to run into Mike Schmitz. Mercedes of Dothan has rental vehicles. So if things did not work out with Toyota in the path was Mike Schmitz to possibly check their rental vehicles.

Now, the accident was dispatched at 5:20 AM. By 7:30 AM to 7:45 AM the family of six who was passing through Dothan and their vehicle was totaled, was in a vehicle traveling to Disney.

In a conversation with Captain Starling he said as the family was leaving the mother let the window down and said " Isn't GOD good". YES HE IS.

And the little girl beamed ... are we on the way now ... excited about adventure to Disney.
