08:22 AM Manslaughter Trial Expeted To Kick Off Before Judge Moulton This Morning

HOUSTON COUNTY: This morning 20th Judicial Circuit Assistant District Attorney Michaela Pope begins the prosecution of Carmen Kirkland on a Manslaughter case.
Kirkland is represented by Attorney Derek Yarbrough and Shaun McGhee.
In a case initiated by Dothan Police, kirkland is charged in the firearm death which occured on October 18, 2021. The original charges at the time of arrest was Capital Murder.
A Capital Murder case carries the death penalty.
The orginal indictment reduced the charges from Captial Murer to Manslaughter in 2022. Those charges were dismissed and the case remanded back to a 20th Judicial Circuit Grand Jury. In 2024 a Grand Jury in the 20th Judicial Circuit returned another indictment for Manslaughter.
After come preliminary cases before the Kirkland cases to be handled by 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Kevin Moulton the Kirkland cases is expected to kick off.
