HOLMES COUNTY FLORIDA: Last evening Holmes County Sheriff John Tate and members of Holmes County Sheriff Department rapidly responded to an armed robbery.
The location is State Line Liquors on Highway 179A.
A suspect had entered the store wearing a mask, brandishing a firearm and demanding money. The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money, stole the store owner’s vehicle, and fled towards Alabama.
The Communications Division, those heroes heard and not seen, quickly disseminated the BOLO ( Be On Look Out ) of the vehicle to surrounding agencies in Alabama.
Within minutes Geneva Police Department under the leadership of Chief Pepper Mock and Geneva County Sheriff Department under the leadership of Sheriff Tony Helms quickly found the vehicle, abandoned. The officers from Geneva County Police Department and Geneva County Sheriff Department quickly found a suspect walking, nearby, which matched the description. The suspect was carrying a bag with a large amount of cash from the liquor store.
The suspect has been identified as Sterling Lamont Hall from Atlanta Georgia. Hall grace a statement to investigators that he was homeless and that he robbed the store because he needed money.
Hall was transported by Geneva Police Department and Geneva County Sheriff Deputies to the Geneva County Jail. Hall will be seen within 72 hours by Geneva County District Court Judge Stephen Smith. Hall will be given an opportunity to sign a waiver of extradition where he can voluntarily agree to return to Holmes County. If he refuses he will remain in the Geneva County Jail until Holmes County State Attorney gets a Governor’s warrant and extradites Hall back to Holmes County. So either voluntarily or through the Florida - Alabama Governor Hall will return to Holmes County to face criminal charges.
Once in Holmes County, Holmes County Sheriff John Tate and members of Holmes County Sheriff Department will lodge criminal charges against Hall for Armed Robbery, Grand Theft Auto, and felon in possession of a firearm.
All stolen items were recovered and will be returned to the owner.

Holmes County Sheriff John Tate would also like to express his thanks to the Holmes County 911 dispatchers for their gathering of information and keeping he and responding Holmes County Deputies updated as they responded. Then the rapid deployment of information to Geneva County 911 dispatchers who took the information from Holmes County and immediately broadcast that information to the officers on the streets that resulted in the apprehension of a dangerous person. The 911 Centers are not seen, only heard. But the 911 dispatchers are a large part of the locating and apprehension of the suspect. And with that Sheriff John Tate gives thanks for the 911 Centers in Holmes County and Geneva County.
