DOTHAN:    08:03 AM      Dothan Police made a traffic stop on Highway 231 South just south of Inez Rod intersection. That intersection is at WalMart South.

The vehicle was occupied by two people. Dothan Police K-9 "hit" on the vehicle pulled over which means indicated the presence of drugs.

The two people were asked to exit the vehicle while a search was conducted for illegal substances. Both seemed fine. As the search continued the two suspects suddenly collapsed.

Dothan Police Officers immediately began emergency medical assistance and called for Dothan Fire to respond. Dothan  Fire Engine 2 ( Lakewood ) responded as did Pilcher Ambulance.

The officers administered at least three cans of Narcan to the two subjects who were not breathing when the Dothan Police Officers began administering emergency medical assistance. The officers began CPR.

Dothan Fire Engine 2 Captain John Parrish called for a second Pilcher Ambulance, later calling for an additional fire engine company and a third ambulance. Dothan Fire Battalion Chief Groomes responded as did Dothan Fire Deputy Chief Pete Webb and Deputy Chief David Hasty.

Dothan Fire and Pilcher Ambulance transported the two patients emergency, one ambulance meeting the second incoming Dothan Fire Engine for a paramedic to enter the second Pilcher Ambulance. Both are reported breathing as Dothan Fire administered other pre-hospital emergency medical treatment.

It is believed the two suspects possibly ingested Fentanyl as the officer made the traffic stop ingesting the evidence suspected in the vehicle. As the officers were conducting the search the drugs apparently kicked in and the two people fell to the ground and stopped breathing.

Dothan Police Vice Investigators were called to the scene. The two people are from Georgia, not spring breakers and knew people in Dothan.

Dothan Police Patrol and Dothan Vice are conducting an investigation. Officers are both on the scene on South Oates Street and at the hospital.

GREAT REACTION

HATS OFF to the Dothan Police Officers on the scene who reacted with haste in administering emergency medical assistance to the two persons.

HATS OFF to Dothan 911 staff who managed the call between Dothan Police - Dothan Fire and Pilcher Ambulance.

HATS OFF to Dothan Fire and Pilcher Ambulance for the swift response and actions.

Dothan Fire checked the two officers on the scene making sure they were OK and not exposed to any dangerous substances. Both officers were cleared.

This is an example of how routine traffic stop changed within seconds.
