COFFEE COUNTY: 10:01 PM. Earlier today Dale County Sheriff Department was notified that 43 blasting caps has been found. The caps were reported to Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum but they were found in Coffee County.
Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum notified Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd. The Sheriff’s along with members of Dale County Sheriff Department and Coffee County Sheriff Department responded.
Once Sheriff Bynum and Sheriff Byrd along with members of the combined department’s surveyed the situation a mutual aid request was placed. Dothan Police Chief Will Benny dispatched the Dothan Police Bomb units to the location in Coffee County.
The location was north west Coffee County.
With the combined three departments there were about 40 law enforcement officers involved. The Sheriff’s and departments were expecting a long night. One thing you never get into a hurry with is something that will go BANG! With immediate serious physical injury or death results. PATIENCE.
Sheriff Bynum and Sheriff Byrd made arrangements to feed the officers because they call came in about supper time. They were prepared for an extended operation.
Dothan Police Bomb unit surveyed and analyzed and were able to make determinations and made decisions that ended the detail early. The danger was minimized and ended and all ended with everyone safe and going home.
Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd appreciated the working relationship with Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum and members of Dale County Sheriff Department and Dothan Police Bomb Unit. Sheriff Byrd thanked Dothan Police Chief Will Benny for the willingness to help when called on.
Sheriff Byrd, who took office in January, is well pleased with the working relationship and team approach of all of the agencies in the WIREGRASS.
