JACKSON COUNTY FL: When Hurricane Michael struck a number of years ago it literally destroyed the Jackson County Sheriff Department.
The Sheriff Department building was destroyed, the radio system destroyed, then Sheriff Lou Roberts had stopped by to check on his wife and he got trapped at home with downed trees blocking him from leaving.
Great decisions can be made in the review of history. The hurricane came as Sheriff Roberts was winding down his tenure as Jackson County Sheriff. So when Donnie Edenfield took over the reigns of Sheriff he started working on different plans. Taking the history of what had happened Sheriff Edenfield started plans to be prepared for the worst case.
When the hurricane information came out Sheriff Edenfield took the plans designed from history and the Sheriff Team began checking, double checking, and double checking that all systems were go.
All equipment was ready, call secondary measures in place. For 24 hours Jackson County Sheriff Department had 30 deputies strategically placed throughout Jackson County and ready for response. And for 24 hours, along with the men and women that serve Jackson County Sheriff Department, Sheriff Donnie Edenfield was on duty on active patrol.
And there was a crew of 911 dispatchers asleep at the Sheriff Department ready in the event it got chaotic. Able to be on duty in minutes if they were needed.
Preparation is the key to a successful mission. And studying the past is what develops great preparation. Knowing how years ago the Hurricane destroying the infrastructure of the Sheriff Department, planning for all possible obstacles and what if’s, Jackson County Sheriff Donnie Edenfield and member of the Jackson County Sheriff Department were prepared as prepared could be.
