HENRY COUNTY:      On January 17, 2023 Eric Blankenship was sworn in to serve his first erm as Henry County Sheriff.

Blankenship came from a number of years as a Henry County Sheriff Deputy and then about two years as Abbeville Police Chief.

If you have not seen Sheriff Blankenship it is because he has hit the ground running and working hard.

First when you take office the Alabama Sheriff Association has immediate training for Sheriff’s. This training was held in Huntsville. Sheriff Blankenship attended the Huntsville training by the Alabama Sheriff Association. But it was cut short.

There was a brutal murder in Headland. Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship, Headland Police Chief Mark Jones and 20th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Russ Goodman are all working together.

Sheriff Blankenship left Huntsville returning to Headland to work side by side to “assist” Headland Police Chief Mark Jones in the investigation. Afterwards the Sheriff returned to Huntsville.

Sheriff Eric Blankenship this week and last week was able to coordinate a working training for the deputies. Sheriff Blankenship is a strong believer in having the men and women serving being trained the best they can be.

The Sheriff had a group in to train 9 deputies which are on the SWAT Team for Henry County. He wants them to be trained to solve the situations with two main goals: 1. EVERYONE returns home or offender to jail, safely and uninjured, and 2. The situation ends peacefully with no injuries.

To accomplish that, training is needed.

Sheriff Blankenship and the men and women of Henry County Sheriff Department have spent since January 17 getting personnel, equipment, systems and training in place.

And working a undercover operation where six people were arrested.

So Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship, while not seen some or as much as he likes, has had his head buried being Henry County’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer/
