***OBITUARY FOUND FROM 1947 LISTING RELATIVES

On June 11th, 1944 PFC Malcolm Blackman Paid The Ultimate Sacrifice For You And For Me

Finding a way to remember all the children who are no longer with us was the main reason I wanted the Angel of Hope statue for our community.
This morning I saw this old headstone while I was visiting my family’s burial place. I don’t know the family but just by reading the inscription on his headstone I think I know the most important things about
Malcolm O. Blackman. On January 13, 1919 Samuel Alto Blackman and his wife Mary Andrews Blackman celebrated the birth of their newborn son and named him Malcolm O. Blackman. I imagine Malcolm, like most boys his age, grew up enjoying life with his family and friends. In the 1920’ and 1930’s around Dothan Alabama I imagine the highlight of his week was getting to go get a soda and some candy downtown..maybe he lived close enough to walk there barefooted or maybe he got to ride his bicycle to town. That was almost 100 years ago so I think of Malcolm’s life could maybe have been somewhat like Tom Sawyers or Huckleberry Finn’s. But whatever Malcolm Blackman’s life was like as a young child and teeenager... it all changed when either he enlisted or was drafted in the U.S. Army to fight for our freedom during World War II. At that moment he would forever be known as Private First Class Malcolm O. Blackman and served with the 18th Infantry.
D-DAY June 6th, 1944...The United States and it’s Allies invade Normandy. Based on the records I found Malcolm was killed in action on June 11, 1944 in France only five days after the initial invasion.
73 years has passed since that day when PFC Malcolm O. Blackman died fighting for our country far away from his home in Alabama. There are no flowers at his grave But You Can Bet There Will Be Some On It Tomorrow With A UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FLAG ON IT.
Malcolm you died for me and for my family and for my country at the young age of 25 years old. You were a child to loving parents and you are one of ...
OUR CHILDREN LOVED,MISSED AND REMEMBERED
