KINSTON: For two weeks in a row 15 year old Dawson Spivey finished second place at South Alabama Speedway in Kinston.
Dawson Spivey started in the back in each race. But that did not stop this 15 year old Slocomb young man. Spivey worked his way through older men and more experienced adult driver.
When the checkered flags waved, making two weeks in a row, 15 year old Dawson Spivey took the hardware home coming in second place.
Dawson’s dad, Waylon Spivey, was back to back series Champion year’s ago in the division an avid since the 1990’s. Waylon Spivey recently gave up during to mentor and train his son Dawson.
Since age 14 Dawson has been driving the car and finishing well as the youngest driver in the division so far.
It is rare to have two 2nd place finishes in back to back weekends. Especially when Dawson started in the back of the pack.
The world of racing is a bright future for Dawson.
Dawson’s older brother, Weston Spivey, became the youngest ever County Commissioner for Geneva County. Weston’s businesses and J & B Collision Repair in Hartford are two of Dawson’s sponsors.
So the Spivey boys sets goals and work towards reaching those goals. Dawson gets out of school and he and his dad load the trailer up and go practice. To reach the goals it takes dedication and consistent hard work.
Chase Elliot, who is a current Nascar driver, done it in pro late models at Dawson’s age. Dawson is steadily climbing the ladder with his willingness to work hard and dedication to his sport.
