GENEVA COUNTY:     10:00 AM    This morning at 10:00 AM in the Geneva County Courthouse, thrid term Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms and second term Geneva County Coroner Donny Atkinson took the oath of office.

Geneva County Sheriff Chaplin Mike Herrara opened the Swearing In ceremonies with prayer for those taking office and law enforcement officers serving.

The oath of office was administered by Geneva County Probate Judge/Chairman of Geneva County Commission Toby Seay.

Sheriff Tony Helms Bible of which he took the oath on was held by his wife.

Helms begins his third four year term as Geneva County Sheriff. He started in 1986 with the Geneva County Sheriff Department. He worked through the ranks to Chief Deputy. When Retired Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward decided not to seek re-election is when then Chief Deputy Tony Helms sought election as Sheriff.

When elected persons say they have an open door policy, Tony Helms has an open door policy. The door to his office is reached and seen before the actual door to go into the administrative offices of the Geneva County Sheriff Office.

Following Sheriff Helms receiving the oath of office he administered the oath to the men and women who serve in sworn officers with arrest power that serve with Sheriff Helms. When asked about why he has to swear the deputies in. Two of the deputies just started recently. BUt Sheriff Helms said with a new administration of Sheriff the deputies begin a new administration. So actually deputies have a four year term with the Sheriff.

CORONER DONNY ATKINSON 

Donnie Atkinson begins his second term as Geneva County Coroner. Atkinson has worked to bring the Geneva County Coroner's Office into a professional office. He is always prompt and responsive when called to a death.

The Bible used to swear Coroner Atkinson in was held by his mother. He was surrounded by his pride and joy, hus grandson, and his three children as he received the Oath of Office from Geneva County Probate Judge/Chairman of the Geneva County Commission Toby Seay.

As Coroner, Donnie Atkinson strives to respond immediately respond, without delay, to conduct the duties of Coroner in a posiiton to stand in the dead man's shoes to protect his or her rights and interests. And to be caring and compassionate with the family.

SHERIFF HELMS SWEARING IN OF DEPUTIES 

After the oath of office was administered Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms turned towards those sworn Deputy Sheriff's who were sitting in the jury box and administered the oath of office to the depuites.
