DOTHAN:    This past weekend thieves stole a Ford F-350 from the west side of Dothan. The vehicle theft was sometime after 11:30 PM.

During the night the thieves drove in the stolen Ford F-350 out Highway 84 to the entrance to ACOM near Cowarts City Limits. The thieves used the F-350 to jerk the ATM open and steal the money.

Once the ATM was entered and money taken the thieves in the Dothan case left the stolen F-350 and fled on foot. Dothan Police and Houston County Sheriff Deputies deployed the K-9 team tracking the suspect into Hidden Lakes subdivision. The supects were not located.

At about 6:20 AM Dothan Police went to the house the vehicle was registered to. Woke the vehicle owner up and was the first he knew his truck was stolen.

In talking with some law enforcement officers who have researched ATM Robberies RSN learned of some interesting facts.

UNCONFIRMED with Dothan Police but based on what I know with Dothan Police, when the alarm was sounded on the People's Bank ATM, my suspicion is the response time for Dothan Police Patrol Divison to arrive on the scene was 5 minutes or less. With Dothan Police Chief Benny and Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper deliberate and intentional effots to increase the Dothan Police staff the response time is pretty quick.

Research in the ATM theft cases, the suspects deliberate use Ford F-250 or Ford F-350 in these thefts. These trucks have the pulling power to snatch open the ATM. These theives, some suspected to be 13 years old and older, in 2 ( two ) minutes or less have the ATM open, money taken and fleeing the scene.

These gangs, some referred to as Texas gangs, travel across the United States committing these thefts. The stolen vehicle used to destroy the ATM are stolen and abandoned on or near the scene. The suspects have a car nearby either parked or someone in the car.

They usually do not remain in the city of the theft. Normally on a vehicle that is rented.

But they are at the bank normally 2 ( two minutes or less ), into the machine and gone. So in the Dothan case the robbery suspects were probably in and gone within 2 minutes of pulling into the bank. Some 3 ( three ) minutes before the police arrived on the scene. Again the response time is UNCONFIRMED in the Dothan case.

UNCONFIRMED   history is a female in Texas has recruited gangs to committ these robberies. The female gets a cut of the theft. According to the UNCONFIRMED history, it is possible the female who coordinates these thefts husband is possibly serving time for ones he commited. And she picked it up, recruits people, coordinates and makes some of the take.

Unknown how much money in Dothan, but some of the videos depicted in this article, claim the theives stole as much as $ 20,000.00 from some ATM'S.

Dothan Police Criminal Investigators and possibly the FBI is assisting, are conducting a detailed and extensive investigation.

HOW CAN THE PUBLIC ASSIST?    As you are driving, pay attention and call 911 if you see anything suspicious. Do not attempt to apprehend but while the police do respond to calls where all if ok, they had rather respond and be nothing then play catch up when something happens.

Anyone with information on the People's Bank ATM robbery in Dothan call CRIMESTOPPERS, 334-793-7000.

And this goes for hotels and motels like in Troy, Bainbridge, etc that might have had three or four people together in a room that were gone during the night. You never know when your information might be the little break needed by law enforcement.

TO THE WANT-A-BE THIEVES  that think this is a quick way to make money. THINK AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN with the final decision being DON'T DO IT!!!
