BIRMINGHAM: There is an article on al.com concerning all of the violent deaths in Birmingham Alabama. And the article appears to be making fun of the Birmingham Mayor and Birmingham Police Chief. And some of their ideas on how to get crime under control.
From a law enforcement officer or law enforcement officer commander's position, or anyone's position, it is difficult to predict that someone is going to kill someone. So preventing a lot of murder's is difficult.
But to slow down the violent crime the law enforcement commander's have to grow a strong backbone. That is something easier to do as an elected Sheriff then an appointed Police Chief. Because just as we saw in Dothan in recent weeks with the renewal of the contract of the Dothan City Manager, a Police Chief works at the pleasure of the Commission. And the example set by Dothan Commission on the City Manager, no good reasons given other than personal agendas.
So as Police Chief if you do what is needed, and someone complains to the Commission, you could be terminated.
But if the commission supports you, which most often would have do be done with signed documents before a Notary or Court Reporter under the penalties of perjury, the Police Chief can take the men and women of the police department and begin to get Birmingham under control.
Alabama has a lot of retired law enforcement officers that would return to duty to get Birmingham under control if Retirement Systems of Alabama would allow and the pay was there. While I can not name everyone across the state, here, folks like former Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes, former Deputy Sheriff Eddie Ingram, Houston County Sheriff Deputy Duane Herring, Retired Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish, Retired Houston County Sheriff Lt. Ladon Joyner, Retired ALEA Captain Barry Tucker, Retired Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward, Retired Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson, just to name a few.
It takes aggressive - legal law enforcement who basically stops everything that moves. A complete zero tolerance that is very aggressive. But it is solveable. And with today's technology an investment.
So anyone that says Birmingham can not be gotten under control is a liar. And remember, Birmingham is home to 2 premier Alabama hospitals being UAB and Children's Hospital.
WHAT I AM DISAPPOINTED IN ....
The so called Alabama leadership, Governor Kay Ivey, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor has not taken a lead role in getting Birmingham under control.
Attorney General Steve Marshall threatended the Jefferson County Sheriff over electronic bingo. Marhall got with ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor for a task force to go to Birmingham to raid electronic bingo places. And because AG Steve Marshall's office lied they had to return a lot of seized money.
But we have not seen Alabama Govornor Kay Ivey order a deployment of law enforcement officers, not seen Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall assemble a group of law enforcement officers, or ALEA Secretary assemble a group of law enforcement officers to go into Birmingham and get it under control.
So one would have to assume; (1) they ( Governor Kay Ivey, Attorney General Steve Marshall, ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor ) could care less about the lives being taken in Birmingham, or (2) they ( Governor Kay Ivey, Attorney General Steve Marshall, ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor ) are only concerned about electronic bingo and not lives, or (3) they ( Governor Kay Ivey, Attorney General Steve Marshall, ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor ) are cowards with no backbones to LEAD EFFORTS to get Birmingham under control.
Sorry, I will proably be a target of Governor Kay Ivey, Attorney General Steve Marshall, ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor, but if I am wrong, someone text me 334-790-1729 or email me at [email protected].
