2:13 PM. Multiple Fire Departments Fighting Large Outdoor Fire

FADETTE:    2:13 PM.  FADETTE Volunteer Fire along with Malvern Volunteer Fire, Slocomb Volunteer Fire, Rehobeth Volunteer Fire and Southern Junction Volunteer Fire are spending their Sunday afternoon fighting a huge outdoor fire.

The Fire is spreading rapidly and structures are reported to be in danger.

The temperature in natural conditions is 100 degrees. Add the heat of the fire and fire gear makes it very dangerous.

Two structures are involved in this fire.

In Houston County, outside the corporate city limits of Dothan, the 17 Volunteer Fire Department’s, 5 Volunteer EMS, Pilcher and Headland EMS respond to over 7,200 fire and EMS calls per year. That volume is 49% of what Dothan Fire Department call volume was in 2018.

Dothan Fire operates on a $ 14 million dollar budget with support staff

Houston County, all Fire and EMS operate on less than one million dollars. There is no way Houston County Commission could find it if it were not for dedicated individuals across this county

A County Commissioner draws $ 33,000.00 a year salary plus $ 2,400.00 a year auto allowance. In ten years a County Commissioner is vested in state retirement.

Commissioner Doug Sinquefield is the only commissioner who will respond regular. And willing to roll his sleeves up and help.

ACCOUNTABLE:   Commissioner Ricky Herring draws $ 2,400.00 to furnish his personal vehicle as a County Commissioner. But he got a brand new Tahoe issued by the Sheriff Department after he took office as Commissioner. Then Deputy Sheriff/County Commissioner Ricky Herring got a letter from the Sheriff which allows Herring to drive the brand new Sheriff Tahoe as a County Commissioner. What about the $ 2,400.00 a year?
