HOUSTON COUNTY: 2:25 PM. A Houston County Jury has found former 20th Judicial Circuit Prosecutor Mark Johnson GUILTY this afternoon.
The jury returned the verdict in less than two ( 2 ) hours on multiple ethics charges lodged by the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.
The judge, Burt Smithhart of Barbour and Bullock County, ordered Johnson in custody following the verdict of the jury. Sentencing will be at a later date.
The charge was on an 11 count indictment. The charge was Soliciting anything for purpose of corrupt influencing official or office for personal gain.
Johnson was a prosecutor under the term of former 20th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Pat Jones. When the allegations were made then District Attorney Pat Jones terminated Johnson as a prosecutor And the case was turned over to the Alabama Attorney General.
