DOTHAN:     2:00 PM    On May 31, 2024 at 5:00 PM marks the end of a combined 50 years of service to the City of Dothan.

Doug Magill is retiring from Dothan Police Department with 25 years of service. Magill is retiring at the rank of Captain. As Captain, Magill was over Administrative Services and the 911 Communications Center as he retires.

During Captain Magill's tenure he has worked in different divisions of the department. As he rose in rank he served a number of years as Internal Affairs Investigator, Commander of Criminal Investigation Division, Lieutenant of Patrol Division and finally as Captain with the Police Department.

During Captain Magill's tenure as Lieutenant of Patrol Division for Dothan Police, night shift, combined with the working relationship with Houston County Sheriff Patrol Lieutenant Reichert, night shift, the people of Dothan and Houston County were well protected. One of the best working relationships that I have observed over the years. The criminal element did not stand a chance with these two men commanding the Dothan Police and Houston County Sheriff patrol divsions while people slept.

Lana Magill, the best part of Doug's life, also retires on May 31, 2024 with 25 years service with the City of Dothan. Mrs. Magill finishes her years with Dothan Police Department as Administrative Assistant to Dothan Police Chief Will Benny.

Lana Magill has had a tough tenure and way more of a burden then her husband has had. That is because she had the obligation of keeping Will Benny and Doug Magill on track as they performed their law enforcement duties. Behind every good man you will find a good woman. That was the case in Doug's personal and professional life and in Will Benny's professional life as Dothan's Top Cop. In Chief Benny's personal life his wife Shea keeps him on track!

THANK YOU to both Doug and Lana for your dedication to serve and protect the citizens of Dothan. Each carried their responsibility with professionalism and cared about the protection of the citizens and guests of Dothan Alabama.
