HENRY COUNTY: This is the Sheriff Count in recent years in Henry County: Sheriff Welcher who died in office with cancer. The Coroner, Norman Holman automatically became Sheriff unitil the Governor appointed a Sheriff.
At the time of Sheriff Welcher's death there was an election going on. The eletion was between Lawton Ed Armstrong and James Golden. The Alabama Governor was Guy Hunt. To be fair Governor Hunt appointed Coroner Norman Holman to serve the remaining term of Sheriff Welcher's.
At the time Sheriff Welcher served, the front of the Henry County Jail was Sheriff Welcher's home and the back was the Henry County Jail.
Lawton Ed Armstrong won the election to become the Henry County Sheriff. Both Sheriff Norman Homan's wife and Lawton Ed Armstrong's wife said NO on living in the jail. On Sheriff Welcher's death the jail was no longer the Sheriff's house, but renovated and became the jail only.
When Sheriff Lawton Ed Armstrong retired Will Maddox was elected to serve as Sheriff. After multiple terms Sheriff Maddox retired and Eric Blankenship became the Henry County Sheriff. And Blankenship is the current Sheriff.
Below is the inmate listof current inmates in the Henry County Jail as of September 24, 2024. The inmate count is at 46 inamtes in the jail.
