DOTHAN:     Tonight downtown Dothan is packed!!!

People are lined up from the southside doors of the Dothan Civic Center to North Saint Andrews Street and then north up the sidewalk on North Saint Andrews Street.

Adults and adults with children.

Playing in the Dothan Civic Center is "BLUEY'S BIG PLAY".

Several days ago, Saturday, there was another event that downtown Dothan was packed with people going to the Dothan Civic Center for a show.

It was former Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper who replaced the Civic Center Manager from the one hired by former Dothan City Manager Mike West.

Mr. Cowper ( LOVE DOTHAN ) hired Clay Dempsey as Civic Center Director. And Clay has constantly been bringing in crowds to the Dothan Civic Center.

It was former Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper who finally got rid of Dothan City Attorney Len White. White retired because of strong encouragement and not because of desire.

It was former Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper that got rid of Jack Mason, IT Director of the City of Dothan who spent $ 16 million dollars on software that did not work. And Jack Mason was a hire of former Dothan City Manager Mike West. And Jack Mason just could not do the job.

It was former Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper who hired Will Benny as Dothan Police Chief when former Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish retired. And Chief Benny has been doing an excellant job in leading the Dothan Police Department.

And because the FAB 4 ( D1 Dorsey, D2 Kirkland, D4 Ferguson and D5 Pierce ) voted not to renew the contract for Kevin Cowper.  In about 34 days Cowper was hired by New Symrna Beach Florida.

D4 Commissioner John Ferguson said they needed someone who could execute. The money Cowper raised for downtown Dothan, the changes he has made in staff, someone is executing. Because work is being done in downtown Dothan and crowds are coming to the once stale Dothan Civic Center.

What is done is done. But as I was leaving work and saw the crowds, for the second time since Saturday. I felt you, the registered voters of Dothan Alabama, needed to know.

Election for the Mayor and Commissioners is next summer.

RSN does not know if Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba has changed his mind, but before the last election he told me that was the last time he was running. However I have been told some making investments in downtown Dothan want Saliba to seek a third term. And I do not know his answer.

Should Saliba seek a third term and should he win, he will be the first Mayor in the history of Dothan to serve three terms.

All Dothan Commissioners will be up for election summer 2025. So if you think you might want to serve as a Dothan Commissioner, start making plans. The clock is ticking fast.
