DOTHAN:    6:21 PM    VIA TEXT RICKEY STOKES 334-790-1729 I was asked this evening why Conestoga Steak House was closed.


The person texting me said it was closed last evening and tonight.


After research and looking at their FACEBOOK, there was a post last evening which read:


"DUE TO COVIDE WE ( CONESTOGA ) WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL WEDNESDAY APRIL 7TH SORRY FOR THE INCONVIENCE".  



The above message was posted on Thursday at 3:01 PM.


HISTORY COMMENT:   


At age 16 I ( Rickey Stokes ) was a dispatcher with Houston County Sheriff Department. During those years, 1977 - 1982, the Houston County Sheriff was A.B. Clark. There was not technology during those years as there is now and the departments did not have the number of officers they have now.


All of Sheriff Clark's term he always had to be listening to the Sheriff Department radio or let the Sheriff dispatcher know where he was at. There were no cell phones, walkie talkie did not have much range. There may be only one deputy on duty and Sheriff Clark might be called. In fact that man was called to the phone in a restaurant all of the time.


Sometime during the period 1977 - 1982 Sheriff Clark picked up his microphone and all he said was "Conestoga", and I knew he was at Conestoga to eat.


Well within 5 minutes Sheriff Clark, who he is radio call number was 3801, went 3801 is 10-8. As dispatcher I knew he was back in the car. The protocol was not strict then, and my reply back to Sheriff Clark was "that was quick". Sheriff Clark replied, all on the Sheriff Department radio " I am not going to stand in line that long to watch a ant eat a elephant".


OK... between 1977 - 1982, those comments were made. It is now 2021 and that still holds true especially on the weekends.


That does not mean much except, CONESTOGA has been cooking great steaks for a lot of years. And it is strange for them to be closed which called for questions. But is temporary due to COVID.
