HOUSTON COUNTY: Due to significant procedures put into place by the present Houston County School Board and the prior Houston County School Board, hack attempts were caught into the computer system of the Houston County School system.
Houston County School Supt. Brandy White was very forthcoming to the public today there were irregularities in the Houston County Board of Education network traffic detected that could indicate a possible failed hack attempt.
The Houston County School Board of present and past when under the direction of Supt. David Sewell, has taken steps since the Malware attack of 2019 to better protect the system.
However, with hackers continuing to adapt others must do the same.
Currently the student information system and the financials are hosted outside the network which minimizes hackers ability to retrieve that information. Personal data for students and staff are not stored on the local network.
The school system is still looking into the situation to make sure there are no gaps in security that may allow hackers to repeat what happened in 2019.
Supt. Brandy White said this is unfortunate that in today's world you have to be in constant protect mode in every step. As many get all of the spam calls daily on your cell phones, the computer systems are faced with constant hack attempts in every part of society. White said himself, the School Board, the IT Department for the School Board are very protective and cautious and do everything in their power to protect the data.
Supt. White also praised the IT Staff of the Houston County School Board for the jobs they do in making the systems and data protected in every way they know how to do.
