CHIPLEY FL: Members of Chipley Police Department, Washington County Sheriff Department, and Florida Highway Patrol are on the scene of WalMart in Chipley.
The combined law enforcement officers have the parking lot sealed off.
Earlier this afternoon a unknown named white male was firing shots in the parking lot of WalMart.
The first unit on the scene, Chipley Police Department, engaged the white male suspect. The suspect apparently refused to obey the commands of the officer and finally resulted in the Chipley Officer being forced to use deadly physical force.
The suspect was treated on the scene by Washington County EMS and transported to the hospital in Chipley where he in critical condition.
Chiply Police Chief Scott Thompson and Washington County Sheriff Kevin Crews held a brief press conference in the Walmart parking lot. A lot of factors are unknown at this time.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement ( FDLE ) is responding. Anytime a law enforcement officer is involved in the use of deadly physical force FDLE comes in and assumes the lead role in the investigation.
There were no civilian or law enforcement injuries. The only person injured was the male subject who had the weapon and refused to obey lawful commands from the Chipley Law Enforcement Officer.
Everything occurred outside the store and in the parking lot.
