HOUSTON COUNTY:     7:00 PM.    The volunteer fire Chiefs from across HOUSTON County met for their regular scheduled meeting tonight at the Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Office.

Joining the Volunteer Fire Chief’s were members of HOUSTON County EMS Association and Sean Gibson, Regional Director of Southeast Alabama EMS Council.

Also attending were Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoupe, D-2 Commissioner Tracy Adams, D-4 Commission James Ivey and Former Houston County Commissioner Doug Sinquefield.

The Commissioners were on hand to present to the Houston County Fire Association and Houston County EMS Association a check for $ 1.5 million dollars. This allocation will be divided with $ 750,000.00 to the 17 Houston County Volunteer Fire Departments and $ 750,000.00 tot he Houston County EMS Departments.

The money comes with restrictions but is intended to help each department with what equipment is needed.

The association discussed the re-programming of radios. Houston County purchased a new radio system for the Houston County Sheriff Department. Included in the radio system purchase was for the Houston County Volunteer Fire and HOUSTON County EMS Departments to operate on the new radio system. All radios are being re-programmed and then testing before the implantation of the new radio system.
