HARTFORD: 7:34 PM. RSN has just learned that Hartford Mayor Neil Strickland has resigned as Mayor at tonight’s Hartford City Council Meeting. The resignation was in a City of Hartford meeting at 6 PM which was followed by a work session at 7 PM.
The reasons are unknown at this time.
Being a Mayor of a small town is a difficult task. The City of Hartford has their own electrical system like Dothan. When you come into office as Mayor with your own electrical system and do not know the utility side makes life difficult. Not counting the small town politics and games played by people.
And honestly, some of the issues has been the lack of cooperation from fellow council members and public servants. That combined with Strickland’s lack of knowledge in the political world has been very frustrating for Strickland and the City of Hartford as a whole.
The sad part is, I am not sure there is a leader on the Hartford City Council. Someone with the knowledge, leadership ability, and strength to take the reigns and get Hartford on the right path forward.
Neil Strickland is a good man. But in the world of Politics, most especially in a small town, it is difficult waters to navigate. And I do not blame Strickland for throwing his hands up.
The City of Hartford was incorporated in 1896. The 2020 census reflected a population of 2,651 people. The corporate city limits of Hartford is 6.251 miles.
