DOTHAN:      The Wiregrass Public Safety Training Center, Dothan Police Chief Will Benny, and Dothan Police Lieutenant WOZNIACK are host to area police and Sheriff Departments for training.


You will see multiple law enforcement agencies performing “private property” traffic stops in places such as the 400 block of Ross Clark at a empty business. The traffic stops are decoy stops to take the K-9’s’ and train them And the handler’s in legal techniques in the performance of the lawful duties of a law enforcement officer.


Agencies from Alabama and Florida are on hand, and been on hand for several weeks, participating in the K-9 training.


Some Panama City Florida, Washington County Florida, Samson Police, and other agencies are involved in this training.


Dothan Police Lt. WOZNIACK is the commander of the K-9 Division of Dothan Police Department.


Dothan Police Chief Will Benny said Dothan is the proud host of this training in connection with the Wiregrass Public Safety Center. Chief Benny said this facility is the state of art facility for all areas of public safety training in all areas which include law enforcement, fire, EMS, EMA and every area.


Chief Benny and Lt. WOZNIACK also said that Dothan and the Wiregrass Public Safety Training Center will be host to almost 70 K-9 Teams beginning Monday. These teams will begin arriving in Dothan on Sunday from as far away as Missouri, Texas, Indiana  and all points in between. The teams will begin work on Monday morning. 


Chief Benny said there is a lot of activity that goes on for all aspects of public safety and some private firearms training classes for the public. The facility is under the direct management of Jason Wright who is employed full time with the City of Dothan to manage the center.

The Wiregrass Public Safety Training Center is anchored by a 28,130 square foot Education and Training building. It includes an array of scenario-specific resources designed to simulate, with crucial accuracy, the emergency situations first responders are likely to face.
