HOUSTON COUNTY: There are some county residents within Houston County that have joined the residents of the City of Dothan. And the joining is in not liking the actions of Gantt ( aka Gnatt ) Pierce, D5 Dothan Commissioner.
Gantt Pierce has purchased a trailer park on DHODGE Road off Highway 231 South. Pierce is placing trailers in the park which are under section 8.
Section 8 Housing is a government subsidy program where, based on your income, the government issues vouchers and pays part of the rent.
Pierce has stated these will be where the grass is cut, a playground and nice homes. While mobile homes last for a while, they do not last long such as brick and mortar structures.
From DHODGE Road the D5 Dothan Commissioner Gant Pierce is working on two Section 8 trailer parks in Cottonwood. One will be behind the sewing factory in Cottonwood and there are plans for a second. This next week, RSN thinks on Tuesday, it will be presented to the Cottonwood Town Council.
Many people are opposed to the idea of the Section 8 housing and there are fears the current infrastructure in Cottonwood will not handle the additional 100 or so homes inside the 5.75 square miles of city limits of Cottonwood.
And D5 Dothan Commissioner Gant Pierce is working on another Section 8 development for Ashford.
Pierce was quoted by a news follower TV station by saying "he wants families to have lower cost options in the area." Pierce was quoted as saying people want affordable housing and sees the need for it.
The residents are concerned because normally Section 8 decreases the value of their property. And some have suggested there is property for sale near Grove Park, where some say Pierce lives, where he could put in a Section 8 trailer park. But these in the areas are not excited about Pierce forcing the Section 8 in their quiet community.
The registered voters of the City of Dothan who elected D5 Commissioner Gnatt Pierce are not happy about his recent vote not to renew the contract of Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper. The reasons stated in the open meeting were flimsy reasons and basic manure reasons for not renewing Cowper's contract. The reasons were believed to be more personal.
Pierce was a supporter, we are told, not to renew the contract of Dothan Municipal Court Judge Rose Evans-Gordon. The day of the vote Pierce was not present but was on a cruise. According to information it was more of a personal reason and not reasons in the job performance as Municipal Court Judge.
Pierce is reported to be against Dothan School Superintendent Dennis Coe. And according to information provided the reasons are not because of professional issues but because of personal requests of Pierce not being granted.
According to information, some UNCONFIRMED but if Pierce wants to challenge those stated then RSN knows how to confirm them.
But the Town Council coming up in Cottonwood next week citizens might want to show up. Pierce, Dorsey, Kirkland and Ferguson had zero concern recently in listening to the registered voters and doing as they requested. Perhaps the Cottonwood Town Council will demonstrate to D5 Dothan Commissioner Gant Pierce their jobs are to listen to those who they serve.
When elected there were great hopes for Pierce. Bit it appears he might be in for one 4 year elected history.
