DOTHAN:   At 8:16 PM Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Police - Dothan Fire - Pilcher Ambulance to 1231 Fortner Street, Ridgecrest Baptist Church, to a firearm assault.


Dothan Police units, under the command of Dothan Police Lt. Chris Watson, was on the scene in seconds. It was quickly determined that no firearm assault occurred at the church. 


The firearm assault occurred at a different location, possibly on Ross Clark Circle, and the gunshot victim was carried by another vehicle to the parking lot of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Dothan Police Criminal Investigation Commander Lt. Scott Owens said this incident is a possible road rage. There were several gunshots into the vehicle on Ross Clark Circle, one striking the passenger in the Ford F-150.


NO FIREARM ASSAULT OCCURRED AT THE CHURCH


The firearm victim received gunshot wounds to the foot. The female victim was transported by Dothan Police to Southeast Health. The injuries are reported not to be life threatening.


Dothan Criminal Investigators are at the church processing the scene. Houston County Sheriff Patrol Lieutenant Reichert was on the scene.


Dothan Police Chief Will Benny said that the church security was contacted immediately and the church locked down. There was a youth event on going on the opposite end of the church building from where the victim appeared in the church parking lot. Chief Benny said the Church Security Director, Barry Tucker, when contacted, had Lance Griffin lock down the church until all was over. Chief Benny said the people in the church were not in danger.


Dothan Police Patrol Lt. Chris Watson gave the go ahead to Ridgecrest to come off lockdown.


Dothan Police is continuing the investigation.
