COLUMBIA: This evening the Columbia Mayor and members of the Columbia City Council met in a special called meeting. The four minute meeting was to accept the resignation of Columbia Police Phillip Killingsworth.
The Columbia Mayor and members of the Columbia City Council will name an Interim Police Chief at the regular council meeting next week.
Killingsworth has served as Columbia Police Chief for a number of years. He has been undergoing training in another field and recently went to part time. Killingsworth resignation is to pursue other fields of work other than law enforcement.
Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza will make sure Columbia is safe and secure. While the City of Columbia is a municipality, the municipality rests in Houston County. And as Sheriff, Valenza is responsible for all of Houston County.
Sheriff Valenza assures all residents of Houston County the Sheriff Department is always there to provide safety, security and law enforcement services. Houston County Sheriff Communications Non Emergency number is 334-677-4808.
The Houston County Sheriff Department is not there to get into the City of Columbia’s business or what they do for police services, but Columbia is in Houston County and not Houston County in Columbia. Therefore the Houston County Sheriff Department is there to meet the needs and demands.
