A New Mexico Man and Woman Behind Bars on for Drugs

WASHINGTON COUNTY, FL; September 25, 2024)- A New Mexico man and woman are behind bars and facing drug-related charges after a traffic stop in Washington County.
At approximately 11:51 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with Holmes County SO conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Caryville, FL. As deputies made contact with the subjects in the vehicle, they noticed an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in, 24-year-old, Veronica Ann Lopez and 26-year-old, Angelo Jacobe Mares being taken into custody after deputies located several illegal drugs to include over a kilogram of cocaine, scales and paraphernalia.
Both were arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail.
Lopez on the charges of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of cocaine.
Mares on the charges of possession of a cocaine, possession of a controlled substance, evidence destroying, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony.
