WASHINGTON COUNTY: An Opp, AL man has been arrested in Washington County on drug possession and paraphernalia charges.

Last night at approximately 11:30 pm, a WCSO deputy initiated a traffic stop on Pate Pond Rd. The vehicle took longer than usual to exit the road but came to a stop near Interstate 10. As the deputy made contact with the driver, he observed a pill bottle located in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The driver identified himself as, 31-year-old, Colby Lee Wyatt of Opp, AL. Wyatt, acting nervous and hesitant to answer questions or commands from law enforcement, was detained.

A department issued K-9 was deployed at this time. The deputy received a positive alert from the K-9 to the presence of narcotics coming from the vehicle. At this time Wyatt agreed to speak with the deputy. Wyatt was asked if there were any narcotics inside the vehicle and he stated, “he doesn’t do that”. Wyatt was found to be in possession of a glass smoking pipe with methamphetamine residue located in the pocket of his pants.

A search of the vehicle was conducted. Located inside the vehicle’s center console was a small black zipper case with a white powdery substance, a small plastic baggie under the seat containing a powdery substance, a pill bottle containing a controlled substance and a white crystalline substance located in the driver’s seat that field tested positive for methamphetamine. The narcotics located in the driver’s seat were consistent with an individual attempting to destroy evidence to prevent law enforcement from locating it.

Wyatt was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and evidence destroying.
