Today in Ashford there was an armed robbery of the MidSouth drive in bank. At first everyone was sorta stunned, like, NO, not in Ashford. The suspect is reported to have pointed the gun on the bank teller at the drive thru.
Ashford Police and Houston County Sheriff Donald VALENZA and members of the Sheriff Department quickly assembled, gathered evidence and identified a suspect.
The law enforcement officers then went to the suspects house where a stand off took place. Again, Sheriff DONALD VALENZA with his team and the Ashford Police team leading them in the stand off.
Houston County Sheriff Department requested Dothan Police K-9 apprehension team. Without hesitation Dothan Police Chief Will Benny had them on the way.
After negotiation and with the help of bondsman Donna Powers, who works for another bonding company, the suspect agreed to walk out with hands in the air and surrender. The suspect was taken into custody without injury to anyone.
It was about 2 hours and 39 minutes from the crime occurring until suspect identified, located, brief stand off, and then taken into custody.
Congratulations to Houston County Sheriff Donald VALENZA and his team, to include the 911 dispatchers, and Ashford Police Chief Melvin Anderson and his team members. Also thanks to the local office of FBI for their assistance.
Ashford Rescue stood by during the stand off in case things went bad.
