While most high school teenagers are playing video games, hanging out with friends, or sleeping in late, on weekends and school holidays, but not the Ashford High School Band students. Many of our band members would use that "free time" to get out in the community and make a difference.
They enjoyed going to Extendicare on Saturdays and Sundays for two hours each time, visiting with the men and women who live there. They would get excited to tell stories of what their new friend had taught them. They heard many war stories and met some hilarious characters!
A few more examples of what these amazing students have done are:
*The Ashford Senior Center graciously opened their doors to us to play Bingo with the members.
*They had a fellow alumni band member lose their home to a fire and these students went through their own items to assist with clothes, the parents of the band cooked meals and helped with all the immediate needs they could.
*Love in Action is needing donations of socks. They took over 150 pair of socks and wrote loving notes on each of them and tied them with a bow. I am sure those words of kindness will warm their hearts while the socks warm their feet.
There are so many awful stories right now in the world. I am hoping that sharing the kindness of The Sound of the Wiregrass, can make it a little better!
