            Bertha Hancock Cureton, a resident of Newville, died early Saturday morning, November 21, 2015, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 99.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 22, 2015, in the Old Center United Methodist Church with Reverend Jerry Glover officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the church sanctuary.


            Mrs. Cureton was born and reared in the Barnes Community of Henry County, daughter of the late William Franklin Hancock and Pearl Sumlar Hancock. She lived in the Old Center Community, near Newville, most of her adult lifetime. Mrs. Cureton was a member of the Old Center United Methodist Church. She was a retired employee of WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. Mrs. Cureton was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Cureton, two brothers, William Averitt Hancock and Jim Bill Hancock.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Wanda Key, Midland City; two sons,  Hugh Cureton (Shirley), Newville and Billy C. Cureton, Newville;  five grandchildren, Tim Key, Greg Key, Alicia Byrd, Beverly Gilley (Ronald), and Chris Cureton (Nikki), eight great-grandchildren, Bryan Key, Shannon Pickerel, Justin Byrd, Jordan Gilley, Nick Gilley, Courtney Cureton, Cooper Cureton, and Caden Cureton, three great-great-children, Baylee Pickerel, Skyler Pickerel, and Breanna Key.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Chris Cureton, Justin Byrd, Ronald Gilley, Nick Gilley, Bryan Key, and Joey Pickerel.
