Birmingham ATM Theft Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting theft investigation. The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.
At approximately 3:47 a.m., officers responded to the PNC Bank ATM located at 2901 2nd Avenue South on a call of a tamper alert. Officers arrived and observed a tow truck and black sedan flee the location.
It was discovered the suspect(s) pulled the safe from the ATM. Additional leads lead officers to the Collegeville Community at 33rd Avenue North. The suspect(s) fled the scene on foot after the vehicle collided with a fence.
A search was conducted in the area by various BPD Units including Star One Air Support and the K-9 Unit, however the suspects were not apprehended. The suspect’s vehicle and the safe was recovered. It has been confirmed the suspect’s vehicle was stolen from the City Limits of Tarrant. The safe was not disturbed and returned to PNC Bank personnel. An investigation is underway.
