City of Dothan’s June Employee of the Month - Craig Walden, Building Inspection Services Manager - Planning Department

DOTHAN ALA:For three years in a row, Craig has earned the distinction of being a “model performer”. There’s a reason for that. He’s diligent, knowledgeable, fair, resourceful, perceptive, possesses high energy and Loves Dothan. In fact, no one has been more involved in the Love Dothan clean-up initiatives than Craig.He has organized his team and taken a physical leadership role in each Love Dothan project. The effort is personal for Craig. He and the Neighborhood Enforcement Officers ride through the city, talking with residents, distributing Love Dothan promotional items, and getting the word out to ensure participation. Since the idea came into being several years ago, Craig has taken ownership of the entire Neighborhood Enhancement concept and has expertly led this effort.
As the City’s Building Official, he has leveraged his knowledge of the construction industry, gained while working in the private sector, to give him a unique perspective on working in the field. Craig is a relationship builder who requires pre-construction meetings so that his expectations are clear from the start of projects, creating a pathway for success from the very beginning. He has also cultivated relationships with the General Contractor Licensing Board Investigators to ensure that contractors are properly licensed for the jobs they are hired to do. The same is true for the Houston County Health Department and their Restaurant Inspection team.
Actions speak louder than words. By being out in field every day, Craig practices what he preaches. He talks to people on the street, often stopping to explain procedures and processes to them. His attitude and exuberance demonstrate his commitment to making Dothan a better place to live. This attitude communicates that he enjoys what he is doing and wants others to share in his commitment to making our city the best that it can be.
We are all proud of the work that Craig Walden has done since joining the City of Dothan team in April 2018. He is a team player and looks out for all of us. It is my pleasure to recognize Craig as the June 2024 Employee of the Month! Well-deserved and congratulations!
