DOTHAN ALA: Mike's quality of work is always top-notch even when the workload is heavy. He takes personal ownership of his responsibilities as the Water Production Chief Operator by ensuring that the 31 water production wells, 14 water storage facilities, and the Pettus Drinking Water Plant are consistently maintained in optimal operating conditions. As a result, Dothan’s customers are served an ample and quality water supply. When Mike was a water station operator, his assigned facilities, as well as his vehicle, stood out from the rest for cleanliness and seamless operation. As the Chief Operator, he now holds each member of his staff to that same standard. Mike is resourceful and is always looking for ways to improve operations.

Mr. Butler puts his best forward every day. Mike is a consistent Model performer. He has a great relationship with his staff of eight  operators and inspires them to perform their work with pride and efficiency.  When tank washouts are required, Mike is still the first up the ladder to clean the tank and assess the conditions. These qualities have strengthened morale among the production staff. Mike monitors the system 24 hours a day and is always aware of tank levels and well pumping statuses, often making modifications from his laptop at home, after hours, to keep the water system running efficiently.

Mike treats all maintenance, repair, and upgrade needs with the utmost urgency. As a result, water production facility downtime is kept to a minimum which ensures a reliable water service to our customers. Additionally, Mike is always willing to respond personally to customer's concerns regarding their water. He takes time to listen to customers, performs water quality testing as needed, and ensures that all questions are answered before leaving. He often follows back up with customers to confirm they are satisfied with the service received.

Mike sets a great example for Dothan Utilities employees and is well-respected in the Department. Mike always leaves things better than he found them, which is a characteristic we should all strive to emulate. The City of Dothan is fortunate to have had an employee like Mike for nearly 29 years and we are hopeful that we have many more years of service with Mike.
