Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a rapidly evolving and changing situation, with updates coming daily, sometimes multiple times a day. At Family First Funeral Care, we understand the challenges families are facing, as we face many of the same challenges. We also understand the need for sensitivity and professional care during this national public health emergency.
The safety and well-being of you, our staff and the Wiregrass community is our TOP PRIORITY. Family First stands ready to assist families with burial or cremation needs, in cooperation and with guidance from the CDC and the Board of Funeral Service.
At Family First we understand the importance of community support for those in mourning. To do our part to facilitate healthy grieving, we have answered below several of the questions most asked of us:
- Are you still offering funerals?
The short answer is YES, we are still offering funerals, but with certain limitations and restrictions. In order to abide by the restrictions of a 25-person event, we can only allow up-to a maximum of 25 people in the building at a time.
- What are some options available to us, as a family?
Family First is taking every step we can in order to accommodate families. We are offering, at no charge, to live-stream via Facebook all the funeral services. We are also willing to video record the service to preserve the occasion for now and future generations. No charge for the recording, only a nominal fee for each copy of the recording as requested by the family.
For those that may have a need for a larger visitation, we are willing to, and have offered the following: at the top of every hour we would allow another 25 people to enter the building, up-t0 a 30-minute maximum period. This will allow our staff 30 minutes to properly clean and disinfect the immediate area of the gathering, as well as doorknobs, light switches, etc.…
- What about a graveside service?
Unfortunately, a graveside service is still considered an “event” and would still be at a 25-person maximum, with the requirement to maintain a six-foot (6’) distance from other parties.
- What do I need to do about arrangements?
According to the current mandate we are under, only three (3) family members, or authorized representatives thereof, are permitted at each arrangement conference. However, we are offering the option of conference calling in order to include as many people as needed to complete arrangements. We can, upon request, come to the family residence to complete arrangements if this is what is easier for the family.
We will also have a pump bottle of hand sanitizer located in every room, along with sanitary wipes for those that prefer this alternative.
Numerous options are available, we simply must respect each other, the parameters within which we have been presented, and work together for a common solution.
We understand that this is not easy. Dealing with grief is hard enough, and the added stress of these new guidelines certainly doesn’t make it any easier. It is necessary, however, to minimize spreading this virus and for the safety of everyone involved.
Finally, please remember that Family First is here to serve the Wiregrass community. We are proud to offer a beautiful, warm and inviting facility. We are also proud to offer the greatest value for your hard-earned dollars, knowing that we offer funeral and cremation services that are hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars less than other area funeral homes. Family First is here, ready to serve your family, 24-hours a day and as always, we are only a phone call away.
