Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson Announced Today He was Retiring at the End of His Term

DALE COUNTY: Today Sheriff Olson announced that he would not be seeking re-election after serving the past 16 years has Dale County Sheriff.


Sheriff Olson stated today's announcement was bitter sweet but he wanted to spend more time with his family and enjoying life. 


Sheriff Olson began his career with the Dale County Sheriff's Office in 1995 serving as a dispatcher and correctional officer. Sheriff Olson has worked his way up the ranks, having completed assignments in patrol and investigations.


Sheriff Olson was elected Sheriff by the people of Dale County in 2007. Sheriff Olson is a 2007 graduate of the National Sheriff's Institute in Longmont, Co, where he was elected class president.


Sheriff Olson was awarded the Veterans of Foreign Wars State and National Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award as well as the Victims of Crime and Leniency (V.O.C.A.L.) State Law Enforcement of the Year in 2013 for his leadership and dedication during the 2013 Midland City Hostage Rescue.  


Sheriff Olson is involved in many civic and professional organizations, including the Ozark Kiwanis Club, South Alabama Boy's and Girl's Club, Wallace College Criminal Justice Advisory Board and executive board member of the Alabama Sheriff's Association.


Sheriff Olson is a lifelong resident of Dale County and a 1991 graduate of G.W. Long High School in Skipperville, AL.
