A Destin resident who is a convicted felon is being held on multiple charges after a traffic stop for
speeding early this morning turned up a loaded gun, drugs, and thousands in cash in his car.
A back-up deputy who arrived after the 1:39 a.m. traffic stop on Harbor Boulevard says the driver,
26-year old Kareem Mitry, was not aware he was standing at the passenger side of Mitry’s car.
As the primary deputy walked back to his patrol car, a supervisor on scene saw Mitry trying to grab an
item from under the seat. He lit up the inside of the car with his flashlight and says Mitry stopped
reaching and began to straighten his pants leg. Mitry refused to answer when asked what he was
reaching for and deputies found a loaded handgun in that spot on the floorboard.
A search of the car also turned up a large amount of MDMA, a backpack with an estimated 795 grams
of marijuana, and more than $7200 in cash, some in what’s known to as “street folds”.
Mitry is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, trafficking in MDMA (more than
200 grams), possession of a firearm while in commission of a felony, and possession of marijuana with
intent to distribute.
