Engine 5 Calls in Structure Fire on State Ave

Dothan – At 9:25 Engine 5 called over the radio that they had a single story residential structure with heavy smoke and flames visible at 915 State Ave. To everyone’s surprise no other stations were expecting this to come over the fire primary radio from another engine. 915 State Ave is directly behind Fire Station 5. They saw it from their station and called it out on the radio as they pulled to the residence. It took a min for Dothan Comm Center to dispatch Engine 1, Engine 4, Truck 1 and Battalion 1. Engine 5 was fire attack and initially command. They advised they had water on fire prior to any other units arrival. Engine 4 Captain became the Safety Officer and the crew became the RIT team upon their arrival. Truck 1 was search and rescue and completed an all clear of the residence. Engine 9 assisted with water supply and with interior operations. Battalion 1 arrived and assumed command of the scene. Dothan Utilities pulled the meter to the house to shut off the power. It is not known what started the fire. No injuries have been reported.
