Escambia County, Florida – Two of our CIU (Criminal Interdiction Unit) members were in a residential area looking for a suspect that had Escambia County warrants for Petit Larceny and fleeing from law enforcement in a vehicle on multiple occasions as well as suspected in a hit and run crash, and currently listed as a habitual traffic violator. Prior to the suspect’s vehicle leaving the resident, Troopers were able to identify the vehicle and obtained the Florida tag which came back not assigned to the vehicle in question. The two Troopers waited in the general area for the suspect vehicle to drive away from the residence. A female driver and the suspect left the residence and once they noticed the patrol vehicles down the street, the driver sped off in an extremely reckless manner. The two Troopers activated their emergency lights and sirens and attempted a traffic stop. Approximately 14 miles later, the pursuit ended when the driver lost control and traveled over a curbed separator at the SR-292/SR-172 intersection.

The occupants of the vehicle were arrested and transported by ambulance to Baptist Hospital with minor injuries (cuts/bruises from their crash) prior to being transported to the jail by FHP personnel. The two individuals were arrested without further incident after being released by Baptist Hospital.

A minor hit and run crash between the suspect’s vehicle and another civilian vehicle that occurred on SR-173 was worked due to the suspect’s vehicle attempt to pass the other vehicle.
