WALTON COUNTY, FLORIDA: A Miramar Beach man has been arrested for attempted robbery only seven days after being released from jail.
On Sunday evening, September 10, Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Embassy Suites in Miramar Beach after receiving a report by a hotel employee of an attempted robbery.
The victim told deputies that while on her break at a gazebo behind the hotel, a white male approached her with his hands in his pockets demanding she give him money. The victim immediately ran back to the hotel.
When reviewing surveillance footage, deputies were able to see the encounter and corroborate the victim’s story and identified the subject.
An investigator from Walton County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Bureau was conducting a follow-up investigation on September 12 when he noticed a male matching the description of the suspect in the robbery walking near the hotel, and moments later, the suspect began rummaging through trash.
The subject is Tayton Johnson, age 25. He had a unique gait that the investigator noticed immediately.
Later, the victim identified Johnson as the same man who attempted to rob her the night before.
During his arrest, Johnson started to shout and curse and attempted to avoid arrest by pulling away. He became irate and started shouting profanities to deputies.
After a subsequent investigation, it was determined that Johnson was just released from Walton County Jail on September 3 after serving a sentence for an attempted carjacking that occurred in the same neighborhood in April 2022.
Johnson lives on South Geronimo Street in Miramar Beach; this is nearly 700 feet from the hotel.
Johnson was arrested for one count of attempted robbery without a weapon, loitering and prowling, and obstruction without violence. He was then transported and booked into the Walton County Jail. He was issued a $10,000 bond and is still incarcerated at the time of the press release.
